Newsflash 18 August 2011: new harvest of Mandheling has arrived

   Mandheling Sumatra  ® Est 3

A classic grade one Mandheling coffee from near Lake Toba on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. Full-bodied and mild.

The coffee is grown in the central highlands of Sumatra, in the Batak region. The name is derived from the name of the indigenous people of the region, the Mandailing. The unique naming of this coffee is believed to derive from a Japanese coffee roaster who was posted there in the second world war. When discovering this wonderful coffee, he asked the locals what it was called; to which they answered "Mandailing", thinking he was asking who they were. After the war he contacted the Sumatran Pwani brokers and ordered  "Mandheling" coffee (misspelling). They shipped 15 tons, using his naming - which has stuck ever since.

If you want to buy coffee from Batak, Sumatra, please check our price list and ordering procedure on our home page.
